Mood:
Southern Baptist University, Theological Seminary or SBU Theological Seminary for short is an Asian Internet based Seminary. It is a teaching ministry of Asian Baptist Ministers of the Universal Life Church (ULC) headquartered in Modesto, California. The Seminary consists of two departments:
1) SBU School of Theology, Ministry and Religious Freedom
2) SBU School of Biblical Rehabilitation and Reentry into Society (R&R)
SBU Theological Seminary's objectives are:
1) to centralize
2) to minister
3) to accredit
Unlike many Seminaries and Bible Colleges today, SBU Theological Seminary's main goal is not to seek for large numbers of students or seminarians in order to create Seminary graduates with diploma's and degree's. Awarding diploma's and degrees is not at all the main objective of the Seminary of which in fact it only does in cooperation with the local Church.
SBU Theological Seminary's primary objective is to centralize seminarians and scholars for the purpose of Ministerial, Biblical and Theological study and research as well as for spiritual, mental and emotional development.
SBU Theological Seminary's second objective is to minister to those who are spiritually, mentally and emotionally in need by providing moral support and religious education as well as to create an awareness on various issues for the purposes of the extension of Justice and the Kingdom of God.
Thirdly, the seminary's objective is to accredit the work of seminarians and scholars who deserve such accreditation by awarding them with the relevant credentials; doing justice to these individuals who have proven themselves to be fully dedicated to their work and calling.
Courses
Courses from SBU Theological Seminary are specially tailored for the needs of each student. The Seminary has no fixed syllabus. There are many Bible Colleges today that provide courses that are in fact nothing but 'fast-paced, entertaining seminars and Sunday sermons'. Courses from SBU Theological Seminary however are intense and students may even have to invest up to eight hours a day for research and study.
Any student doing a degree course with the Seminary is specially chosen and approved by the board based on certain criteria to be a seminarian. Student's that are approved must have the ability to study independently and should be pioneering a work, in the process of pioneering a work or have previously pioneered a work or ministry. Thus, unlike the certificate courses offered by the seminary, not many have been admitted for the degree courses. Student's that have been admitted can pursue up to their doctorate degree.
